Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the impact of a hands-on simulation on resident knowledge and confidence in ectopic pregnancy management.
  • To improve skills in recognizing ectopic pregnancy, selecting surgical candidates, and performing salpingostomy.

Main Methods:

  • An educational initiative involving 11 OB/GYN residents (PGY 1-4) using a modified gynecologic mannequin.
  • Pre- and post-simulation questionnaires assessed knowledge and confidence.
  • Simulation included recognizing ectopic pregnancy, surgical decision-making, and performing salpingostomy/salpingectomy, followed by debriefing and didactic lecture.

Main Results:

  • Median knowledge scores increased from 9 to 12 (p=0.001).
  • Median confidence scores significantly improved from 28 to 42 (p<0.001).
