Summary

Ghrelin, an orexigenic hormone, modulates macrophage immune responses by altering their metabolism. This study shows ghrelin enhances mitochondrial function and IL-12 production while inhibiting TNF-α and IL-1β secretion in macrophages.

Studying Mitochondrial Structure and Function in Drosophila Ovaries

Analysis of the mitochondrial structure-function relationship is required for a thorough understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of mitochondrial functionality. Specific methods for studying mitochondrial structure and function in live and fixed Drosophila ovaries are described and demonstrated in this paper.

Assessing Mitochondrial Function in Sciatic Nerve by High-Resolution Respirometry

High-resolution respirometry coupled to fluorescence sensors determines mitochondrial oxygen consumption and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. The present protocol describes a technique to assess mitochondrial respiratory rates and ROS production in the permeabilized sciatic nerve.

Functional Characterization of Regulatory Macrophages That Inhibit Graft-reactive Immunity

Macrophages are plastic cells of the hematopoietic system that have a crucial role in protective immunity and homeostasis. In this report, we describe optimized in vitro techniques to phenotypically and functionally characterize graft-infiltrating regulatory macrophages that accumulate in the transplanted organ under tolerogenic...
