Background:

  • The Florida (FL) Sleeve procedure is a simplified valve-sparing technique for aortic insufficiency (AI) linked to aortic root aneurysms.
  • This study evaluates the short- and long-term results of the FL Sleeve procedure.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the safety and efficacy of the FL Sleeve procedure for treating aortic root aneurysms and Type I AI.
  • To assess both short-term and long-term patient outcomes.

Main Methods:

  • The FL Sleeve procedure was performed on 177 patients between May 2002 and January 2016.
  • Echocardiography was used to evaluate left ventricular dimensions and the degree of AI pre- and post-operatively.

Main Results:

  • Survival rates were 98% at 1 year, 97% at 5 years, and 93% at 8 years.
  • Freedom from reoperation was 99% at 1 year and 98% at 2-8 years.
  • Significant improvements in AI grade and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) were observed at 30 days and 5 years post-procedure.

Conclusions:

  • The FL Sleeve procedure is a safe, effective, and durable treatment for aortic root aneurysm and Type I AI.
  • The procedure shows encouraging long-term survival and freedom from reoperation rates.
