Insights
Lacrosse non-slip elements (NSE) and cutting balloons are equally effective for treating calcified coronary lesions. This study found no significant differences in outcomes or complications between the two interventional methods.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Interventional Cardiology
- Medical Devices
Background:
- Calcified coronary lesions pose a significant challenge in interventional cardiology.
- Effective treatment strategies are crucial for improving patient outcomes and reducing cardiovascular events.
Purpose of the Study:
- To compare the efficacy and safety of Lacrosse non-slip elements (NSE) versus cutting balloons for treating moderate to severe calcified coronary lesions.
Main Methods:
- Retrospective analysis of 79 patients with calcified coronary lesions undergoing interventional therapy.
- Comparison of outcomes between patients treated with Lacrosse NSE (n=41) and cutting balloons (n=38).
- Evaluation of clinical characteristics, angiographic data, perioperative parameters, complications, and major adverse cardiovascular events.
Main Results:
- No significant differences were observed in patient demographics or risk factors between the Lacrosse NSE and cutting balloon groups.
- Operation duration and perioperative/postoperative complication rates were similar for both treatment modalities.
- Both Lacrosse NSE and cutting balloons demonstrated comparable safety profiles.
Conclusions:
- Lacrosse non-slip elements (NSE) offer a similar therapeutic effect to cutting balloons in managing moderate to severe calcified coronary lesions.
- The findings suggest that Lacrosse NSE is a viable alternative for treating calcified coronary lesions.
Introduction:
The present study aimed to compare Lacrosse non-slip elements (NSE) and cutting balloons in treating calcified coronary lesions.
Methods:
A retrospective analysis was performed in 79 patients, who were diagnosed with moderate to severe calcified coronary lesions by coronary angiography, and underwent interventional therapy from January to December 2017. Lacrosse NSEs were used in 41 patients, while cutting balloons were used in 38 patients. The basic clinical characteristics, angiographic images, perioperative parameters, operation durations, interventional complications and incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events were compared.
Results:
There was no significant difference in age, gender and risk factors between the two groups (P > 0.05). Furthermore, there was no significant difference in operation duration, and perioperative and postoperative complications between the two groups (P > 0.05).
Conclusion:
Compared with cutting balloons, the Lacrosse NSE has a similar effect in treating moderate to severe calcified coronary lesions.
