[Reaction of an osteoclast population to ionizing radiation]
Abstract:
It was established by the method of the osteoclast prints prepared from a distal part of femur that osteoclasts are highly radioresistant cells with Do=8.35 Gy. The postirradiation study of the nuclei distribution and the osteoclast quantity showed that the histogenesis of young cell forms changed and the total number of osteoclasts decreased. This was probably connected with a change in the hormonal status of the exposed body or with the direct effect of radiation on cells-precursors of osteoclasts.
