Menotrophin Induced Autoimmune Hepatitis.

Background:

• Menotrophin is a gonadotropin preparation used for fertility treatment.
• Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a significant concern with increasing medication use.
• No prior reports linked Menotrophin to DILI.

Observation:

• A 26-year-old woman developed jaundice and fatigue after Menotrophin treatment for infertility.
• Baseline liver function and enzymes were normal before treatment.
• Viral, metabolic, alcoholic, and vascular causes of liver injury were excluded.

Findings:

• The patient presented with elevated transaminases and positive antinuclear antibody (ANA).
• Liver biopsy confirmed autoimmune hepatitis.
• Discontinuation of Menotrophin and treatment with prednisolone and azathioprine led to normalization of liver enzymes.

Implications:

• This case suggests Menotrophin can induce autoimmune hepatitis.
• Clinicians should consider DILI in patients on Menotrophin presenting with liver abnormalities.
• Further investigation into Menotrophin's hepatotoxicity is warranted.
