    Background:

    • Severe nodulocystic acne vulgaris presents a significant therapeutic challenge.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral 13-cis-retinoic acid in treating severe nodulocystic acne vulgaris.
    • To assess the outcomes of full-face dermabrasion performed during or after retinoid therapy for acne scarring.

    Main Methods:

    • Nine patients with severe nodulocystic acne vulgaris received oral 13-cis-retinoic acid.
    • All patients underwent full-face dermabrasion either during or after the retinoid treatment course.

    Main Results:

    • Complete clearance of acne vulgaris was observed in all nine patients following treatment with oral 13-cis-retinoic acid.
    • Postoperative healing after dermabrasion was uneventful.
    • No significant complications were reported during the healing process post-dermabrasion.
