    Background:

    • Atopy is linked to immune system alterations, including reduced cell-mediated immunity and elevated immunoglobulin E (IgE).

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate potential imbalances in peripheral blood T lymphocyte subsets in individuals with atopic asthma.
    • To compare T cell subset composition between atopic asthmatics and non-atopic controls.

    • Peripheral blood T cells were purified from 15 atopic asthmatics and 10 non-atopic controls.
    • Indirect immunofluorescence with monoclonal antibodies identified T cell subsets (T3, T4, T8, M1, Ia).
