    Summary

    Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) frequencies did not differ between couples with unexplained infertility and fertile controls. Shared HLA antigens and mixed lymphocyte culture reactivity were also similar, suggesting HLA compatibility is not a cause of infertility.

    Background:

    • Human leukocyte antigens (HLA) play a crucial role in immune responses.
    • Infertility can have various causes, and immune factors are sometimes implicated.
    • Previous research has explored the link between HLA compatibility and reproductive success.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the association between human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antigen frequencies and unexplained infertility.
    • To compare HLA antigen sharing and mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) reactivity in infertile couples versus fertile controls.

    Main Methods:

    • Determined Class I (HLA-A, -B) and Class II (HLA-DR) antigens in 18 infertile couples.
    • Compared HLA antigen frequencies with 30 fertile couples and a control cell panel.
