Emotional intelligence significantly enhances health center manager performance. Improving managers' emotional intelligence skills is crucial for organizational success and requires attention from leadership.
Area of Science:
- Health Management
- Organizational Psychology
Background:
- Emotional intelligence (EI) is vital for effective management and achieving organizational goals.
- This study investigates the impact of EI on health center performance.
Purpose of the Study:
- To determine the extent to which emotional intelligence influences the performance of health center managers.
- To provide operational strategies for health policymakers and technical managers.
Main Methods:
- A correlational/applied study conducted in 2016 with technical health managers in Hamadan Province, Iran.
- Performance assessed via health deputy monitoring scores; EI measured using the Shiring Siberia questionnaire.
- Data analyzed using SPSS with multiple linear regression, Spearman correlation, and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).
Main Results:
- Emotional intelligence demonstrated a direct and significant positive impact on manager performance (P=0.001).
- An increase in EI score correlated with a 0.718 unit increase in performance score.
- Awareness had the greatest impact (P=0.001, B=0.017), while self-control had the weakest impact (P=0.014, B=-0.08) on performance.
Conclusions:
- The level of emotional intelligence and its components significantly affect manager performance in health centers.
- There is a clear need for health leaders to prioritize and enhance the EI skills of their managers.
