Hospitals-II

1.1K
Hospitals provide inpatient and outpatient services. Inpatient services provide care to patients that stay in the hospital for an extended period, ranging from days to months. Examples of inpatient services include intensive care units, hospital wards, or surgeries. Outpatient services provide care to patients who come to a hospital for a diagnostic or treatment but do not stay overnight —for example, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, or health education.

The Professional Nurse01:22

The Professional Nurse

5.6K
Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

4.1K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Accountability and Responsibility of a Nurse II01:09

Accountability and Responsibility of a Nurse II

1.1K
Professional accountability in nursing is a multifaceted concept that encompasses professional ethics, legal standards, and employment expectations. This framework ensures that nurses maintain and elevate the quality of care while upholding the values of their profession. It compels them to treat patients, families, and colleagues with respect, compassion, and integrity.
For example, a nurse demonstrating respect and compassion might listen attentively to a patient's concerns, provide...

Obedience01:08

Obedience

35.1K
According to obedience research, we may harm others under the forceful pressures of an authority figure (Milgram, 1974). How about if the inappropriate orders were delivered with less force? The increasing interdependence between nurses and physicians compelled Hofling and his colleagues to explore nurses’ reactions to a potentially harmful medical request made by the perceived authority figure, the doctor (Hofling, Brotzman, Dalrymple, Graves, & Pierce, 1966). In this situation,...

Ethical Issues01:27

Ethical Issues

2.0K
Nurses are essential in patient care, upholding the ethical principles of their profession and effectively navigating ethical dilemmas. Neglecting ethical issues can lead to inadequate patient care, compromised therapeutic relationships, and moral distress among healthcare workers.

Area of Science:

  • Nursing
  • Healthcare Management
  • Professional Development

Background:

  • Professional competences are crucial for hospital nursing quality.
  • Assessing these competences aids in identifying skill gaps.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the frequency of professional competences among hospital nurses.
  • To identify competences with the highest and lowest reported frequencies.

Main Methods:

  • A descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative study was conducted.
  • 45 nurses from a high-complexity hospital in São Paulo participated.
  • The Competences Evaluation Questionnaire assessed five domains: professionalism, communication, management, nursing process, and problem-solving.

Main Results:

  • Highest frequencies were observed for "Commitment to punctuality and workload" and "Commitment to the ethical principles of the profession."
  • Lowest frequencies were reported for "Communication with the hospital's administrative staff" and "Participation in scientific research and/or application of results."

Conclusions:

  • Competence evaluation is essential for hospital managers and training centers.
  • It facilitates the identification of knowledge, skill, and attitude gaps.
  • Findings support the development of targeted professional development strategies.
