Orbital floor reconstruction with lyophilized dura

Abstract:
This prospective study evaluates the use of lyophilized dura in the repair of traumatic defects of the orbital floor in 15 patients with severe orbital floor fractures, rupture of the periorbita, and herniation of orbital contents into the maxillary sinus that were followed for 12 months. No complications such as implant migration, extrusion, or infection resulted. The material was easy to use, well tolerated, and replaced by connective tissue. It appears to be equal, if not superior, to alloplastic materials.
