Summary

Eucalyptus oil poisoning can cause seizures in adults, a rare but serious side effect. Prompt intensive care unit treatment, including correcting metabolic acidosis, leads to recovery.

Background:

Eucalyptus oil poisoning is common in children, causing neurological symptoms.
Seizures are rare in adult eucalyptus oil poisoning cases.

Observation:

Two adult males unintentionally ingested eucalyptus oil, presenting with seizures.
Both patients exhibited severe metabolic acidosis upon arrival.

Findings:

Intensive care unit management with supportive care was administered.
Intravenous bicarbonate infusion successfully corrected metabolic acidosis.
Both patients recovered and were discharged within four days.

Implications:

Physicians must recognize the potential for seizures in adult eucalyptus oil poisoning.
Effective management involves intensive care, metabolic acidosis correction, and hemodynamic support.
Mandatory warning labels on eucalyptus oil products are recommended.
