Summary

This study analyzed pediatric emergency visits for syncope to determine how often specific history findings correlate with cardiac causes. Of 2293 patients meeting inclusion criteria, only 0.39% had cardiac syncope. All nine with cardiac causes had at least one positive history finding. A total of 1972 patients had no positive findings and no cardiac syncope. The study suggests that asking specific questions may help identify cardiac syncope and reduce unnecessary testing. No patient with a negative history had a cardiac cause confirmed. The findings support a standardized screening approach in clinical practice.
