Wave form characteristics of vertical oscillations in longstanding vision loss

Abstract:
Eye movement recordings were collected on ten patients who had monocular vertical oscillations of their eye with longstanding vision loss. Amplitude of the oscillations ranged from 3 degrees to 50 degrees. Frequencies ranged from .12 to 5 cycles/second and were inversely correlated with amplitudes. Three subjects appeared to have two wave forms superposed on one another. Depending on which of these wave forms we use in analysis, there may be a correlation between oscillation amplitude and duration of vision loss. Presence of the two wave forms is discussed in terms of their possible etiologic relationship with the vertical drift phenomenon.
