Area of Science:

  • Orthopedics
  • Neurosurgery
  • Spinal Surgery

Background:

  • Minor spinal instability presents challenges in treatment.
  • Traditional fusion and instrumentation methods have limitations.
  • Dynamic stabilization offers a less invasive approach.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the clinical outcomes of the Dynesys® soft spinal stabilization system.
  • To assess the efficacy and complication rates of Dynesys® in patients with minor instability.
  • To compare Dynesys® as an alternative to spinal fusion.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective study of 83 patients undergoing surgery with the Dynesys® system.
  • Indications included degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, and lumbar stenosis.
  • Clinical results and complication rates were analyzed.

Main Results:

  • Satisfactory clinical results were observed with the Dynesys® system.
  • The overall complication rate was 20.4% (17 out of 83 patients).
  • This complication rate aligns with existing literature findings.

Conclusions:

  • The Dynesys® dynamic stabilization system effectively preserves lumbar motion while ensuring stability.
  • It serves as a strong alternative to fusion and instrumentation for chronic lumbar instabilities.
  • Clinical outcomes support its use in managing lumbar spinal problems.
