Polyhydroxylated sterols from Monascus purpureus-fermented rice

Two novel polyhydroxylated sterols isolated from Monascus purpureus demonstrated significant cytotoxic activity against lung adenocarcinoma (A549) and ovarian cancer (A2780) cell lines. These compounds offer potential for developing new anti-cancer therapeutics.
