Hemangioblastoma arising from duramater: Case report

Dural hemangioblastoma is a rare brain tumor. High signal intensity on T2WI and homogeneous enhancement on MRI scans help differentiate it from meningioma.

- Hemangioblastoma (HB) is a rare, benign tumor typically found in the brain's subtentorial region.
- Dural origin hemangioblastomas are exceptionally uncommon, posing diagnostic challenges.
Observation:
- A patient presented with chronic dizziness and headache, worsening over a month.
- Initial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) suggested meningioma, but post-operative pathology confirmed hemangioblastoma.
Findings:
- The dural lesion exhibited high T2WI signal intensity and homogeneous enhancement on MRI.
- Immunohistochemistry revealed positive markers for CD31, CD34, CD56, and alpha-inhibin, consistent with hemangioblastoma.
Implications:
- Distinct MRI characteristics, including high T2WI signal and homogeneous enhancement, are crucial for differentiating dural hemangioblastoma from meningioma.
- Accurate diagnosis and surgical resection led to a favorable outcome with no recurrence at three months.
