Area of Science:

  • Hematology
  • Clinical Chemistry
  • Medical Diagnostics

Background:

  • Platelet function (PF) is crucial for hemostasis and thrombosis.
  • Manual light transmission aggregometry (LTA) is the standard but is error-prone and time-consuming.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the agreement of automated Sysmex CS-2100i analyzer with APACT 4004 for platelet function testing.
  • To assess key parameters: maximum aggregation (MA), velocity (VEL), and lag-phase (LagP).

Main Methods:

  • Comparison of Sysmex CS-2100i and APACT 4004 using 123 patient-derived samples.
  • Included healthy participants, patients on antiplatelet drugs, and those with other hemostaseologic disorders.

Main Results:

  • Good to excellent intermethod correlation for MA and VEL.
  • Partial agreement observed, with CS-2100i showing a systematic bias towards lower MA values below 50%.
  • CS-2100i successfully identified all patients with impaired PF detected by APACT 4004.

Conclusions:

  • Automated LTA with Sysmex CS-2100i is a standardized and reliable method for PF testing.
  • It simplifies platelet function testing in clinical practice.
  • Reference values for automated LTA are provided.
