An inverted U-shaped relationship between heart rate deceleration and empathic emotions

Moderate parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) activity, measured by heart rate deceleration, is linked to higher empathy. Both low and high PNS activity showed weaker associations with personal distress and empathic concern.
