Area of Science:

  • Medical Imaging
  • Neuroscience
  • Biomedical Engineering

Context:

  • Magnetic Resonance (MR) tomography excels in soft tissue contrast compared to other modalities.
  • Accurate volumetric measurements of brain structures, including the ventricular system, are crucial for diagnosing conditions like hydrocephalus.

Purpose:

  • To introduce a novel computer program for the segmentation and volume estimation of brain structures from MR tomograms.
  • To provide a reliable method for accurate volumetric analysis of MR imaging data.

Summary:

  • The proposed method utilizes MR tomography data for precise segmentation and volume estimation of brain structures.
  • The computer program has been validated on multi-slice images from normal patients and a phantom, demonstrating its accuracy.
