Community Based Intervention01:30

Community Based Intervention

240
Community-based interventions in mental health represent a paradigm shift from institution-centered care to treatments embedded within the fabric of local communities. By prioritizing inclusion and leveraging existing societal structures, this approach fosters a supportive environment conducive to addressing mental health challenges while promoting individual dignity and agency.

Levels of Health Promotion and Illness Prevention

14.1K
Health promotion allows a person to control the determinants of health, resulting in an improved health status. It enhances the quality of life and reduces premature deaths. Health promotion and illness prevention programs help people make beneficial choices to reduce the risk of disease and disabilities. There are three health promotion and illness prevention levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
In primary prevention, actions taken before disease onset prevent the disease from...

Primary Healthcare Services

1.8K
Primary care promotes wellness and prevents disease. This care includes health promotion, education, protection (such as immunizations), early disease screening, and environmental considerations. Settings providing this type of healthcare include physician offices, public health clinics, school nursing, and community health nursing.

Methods Of Healthcare Delivery System

3.9K
At the different levels of the healthcare system, we see varying methods of healthcare used. These methods include managed care systems, case management, and primary healthcare.
Managed Care System:
The managed care system is designed to control the cost while maintaining the quality of care. The patient's care from admission to discharge is planned by the primary care provider or the case manager, also known as the gatekeeper. In a managed care system, the number of care providers is...

Steps in Outbreak Investigation

446
In the ever-evolving field of public health, statistical analysis serves as a cornerstone for understanding and managing disease outbreaks. By leveraging various statistical tools, health professionals can predict potential outbreaks, analyze ongoing situations, and devise effective responses to mitigate impact. For that to happen, there are a few possible stages of the analysis:

Models of Health Promotion and Illness Prevention II

2.0K
The person's health status fluctuates continually, varying from being in good health to becoming ill and returning to being healthy. To understand the concept of illness prevention, there are two models. First, the health-illness continuum model is a graphic representation of an individual's wellness. It states that a person is considered healthy in the absence of physical disease and the presence of good emotional health.
The agent-host-environment model states that disease results...

Area of Science:

  • Public Health
  • Health Services Research
  • Community Health

Background:

  • Local health departments (LHDs) face challenges in providing adequate health promotion and access to quality care.
  • A strategic shift towards population-level interventions addressing social determinants of health is needed.
  • Modernization efforts are crucial for LHDs to effectively serve their communities.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify factors facilitating the transition of LHDs from direct clinical services to population-level interventions.
  • To understand the strategies employed by LHDs in addressing social determinants of health.
  • To provide insights for successful LHD modernization.

Main Methods:

  • Conducted semistructured key informant interviews with leaders and staff from 7 LHDs.
  • Utilized thematic qualitative analysis to identify common characteristics and strategies.
  • Included LHDs from diverse rural and urban settings across multiple states.

Main Results:

  • A primary impetus for transition was the desire to "modernize" services.
  • Incorporating the 10 Essential Public Health Services or Public Health 3.0 into strategic plans facilitated buy-in and focus.
  • Strong community relationships, open communication, and partnerships were critical facilitators.
  • Identified 8 key elements for effective transition: partnership/leadership, vision/goals, communication, community engagement, interventions, data/evaluation, workforce, and sustainability.

Conclusions:

  • LHDs require technical support to navigate complexity and focus on population-level prevention.
  • The study offers replicable solutions and methods for LHDs transitioning to population health roles.
  • Successful transitions enable LHDs to maximize their impact on community well-being.
