Background:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a significant complication of diabetes mellitus.
  • Micronutrient deficiencies are increasingly recognized as potential contributors to DFU development and impaired healing.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the prevalence of specific micronutrient deficiencies in patients with DFUs.
  • To correlate these deficiencies with DFU severity and clinical factors.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective cohort study involving 131 diabetic patients with foot ulcers.
  • Measurement of plasma serum levels for vitamins A, C, D, E, copper, zinc, and ferritin.
  • Collection of demographic and clinical data, including WIfI score and HbA1c.

  • High prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (55.7%) and suboptimal vitamin C (73%).
