Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To characterize the protein profiles of crude cell walls from different Staphylococcus aureus strains.
  • To identify and localize surface-exposed proteins that may play a role in host immune responses.

  • Mechanical disruption of S. aureus cells followed by differential centrifugation to isolate cell walls.
  • Lysostaphin digestion to release cell-wall proteins, analyzed by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).
