Summary

Castleman's disease, a rare lymphoproliferative disorder, can occur in the retroperitoneum. This case highlights successful surgical removal of a retroperitoneal Castleman's disease, hyaline vascular type.

Background:

  • Castleman's disease is an uncommon lymphoproliferative disorder.
  • Typically presents in the chest, head, and neck regions.
  • Retroperitoneal presentation is rare.

Observation:

  • A 71-year-old male presented with a retroperitoneal tumor.
  • Imaging (CT and PET-CT) suggested a malignant condition.
  • The tumor was located in the para-aortic area.

Findings:

  • Surgical resection via laparoscopic tumorectomy was performed.
  • Pathological diagnosis confirmed Castleman's disease, hyaline vascular type.
  • No recurrence was noted at 20 months post-surgery.

Implications:

  • This case expands the known clinical spectrum of Castleman's disease.
  • Highlights the importance of considering Castleman's disease in retroperitoneal masses.
  • Demonstrates the efficacy of surgical management for this rare condition.
