The iLead intervention effectively improved healthcare managers' knowledge but did not enhance their implementation leadership behaviors. Contextualizing the training did not boost skill transfer, indicating a need for further development in applying learned skills.
Area of Science:
- Healthcare Management
- Organizational Psychology
- Leadership Development
Background:
- Effective implementation leadership is crucial for healthcare success.
- The iLead intervention was developed to train healthcare managers in implementation leadership.
- Understanding factors that support the transfer of training is essential for leadership development.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the iLead intervention for healthcare managers.
- To investigate if contextualizing the intervention enhances training transfer.
- To assess the impact of iLead on implementation leadership behaviors.
Main Methods:
- A pre-evaluation-postevaluation design using mixed methods.
- Process and effect surveys and interviews were employed.
- Participants included 52 healthcare managers, with a contextualized group (Group 2) and a non-contextualized group (Group 1).
Main Results:
- iLead was perceived as high-quality and increased participants' knowledge.
- Mixed effects were observed regarding changes in leadership behaviors.
- Contextualization did not significantly boost behavior change or implementation leadership compared to the non-contextualized group.
Conclusions:
- iLead offers a novel approach to training implementation leadership by integrating leadership models with environmental factors.
- While participants reported positive effects, contextualization did not improve the transfer of learned skills.
- Further research is needed to develop strategies for enhancing the application of implementation leadership skills in the workplace.
