Area of Science:

  • Gynecology
  • Reproductive Endocrinology
  • Pediatric Surgery

Background:

  • Ovarian tumors are common in adolescents.
  • Retroperitoneal locations for pelvic organs are rare.

Observation:

  • A 15-year-old female presented with a large abdominopelvic mass.
  • Imaging revealed a retroperitoneal right ovarian cystadenofibroma.
  • The left ovary was also retroperitoneal, containing a small adenofibroma.

Findings:

  • This is the first reported case of bilateral retroperitoneal ovaries.
  • The ovarian tumors were identified as cystadenofibromas.
  • The uterus and fallopian tubes were anatomically normal.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of considering ectopic organ locations in pediatric masses.
  • Adds to the literature on rare ovarian tumor presentations.
  • May inform diagnostic approaches for abdominopelvic masses in adolescents.
