Diabetes mellitus is a growing global epidemic, particularly in India, leading to severe complications.
Diabetic retinopathy is a major cause of preventable blindness in India.
Effective management of risk factors, regular screening, and timely treatment are crucial for preventing vision loss.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the impact of a comprehensive diabetes care program in Goa, India.
To assess the effectiveness of screening, early detection, and treatment of diabetic retinopathy.
To determine if the initiative reduces blindness and diabetes-related morbidity and mortality.

Main Methods:

Establishment of a medical retina clinic at Goa Medical College for advanced evaluation and treatment.
Implementation of peripheral screening centers for all individuals with diabetes mellitus.
Integration of foot ulcer risk assessment and nephropathy screening for microvascular complications.
