Pulse rhythm01:30

Pulse rhythm

1.3K
Pulse rhythm refers to the pattern of pulsations within specific intervals, offering valuable insights into the regularity or irregularity of the heart's beats as observed through the pattern of pulsation within specific intervals. A regular pulse exhibits a consistent heart rate with uniform waveforms and pulsation force, variations of which can be classified as normal, weak, or bounding.
Conversely, an irregular pulse pattern is termed dysrhythmia, stemming from disruptions in cardiac...

Nursing Clinical Information System

1.2K
Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:

Integrated Healthcare System01:20

Integrated Healthcare System

2.2K
An integrated healthcare system (IHS) is a set of organizations that provides for or arranges to provide coordinated and continuous service to a defined population. The IHS takes responsibility for that particular population's health status and outcome, both clinically and fiscally. An integrated healthcare system is a well-organized, well-coordinated, and collaborative network. The integrated delivery system is a network that connects different healthcare providers to deliver organized,...

Holter Monitor: 24-Hour Monitoring01:23

Holter Monitor: 24-Hour Monitoring

1.6K
Holter monitoring is a continuous electrocardiography (ECG) recording that tracks the heart's electrical activity over an extended period, generally 24 to 48 hours. This noninvasive diagnostic tool detects irregular heart rhythms that may not be captured during a standard ECG performed in a clinical setting.DeviceThe Holter monitor is a portable, small device connected to several electrodes on the patient's chest. These electrodes detect the heart's electrical signals and transmit them to the...

Hospitals-II00:59

Hospitals-II

1.1K
Hospitals provide inpatient and outpatient services. Inpatient services provide care to patients that stay in the hospital for an extended period, ranging from days to months. Examples of inpatient services include intensive care units, hospital wards, or surgeries. Outpatient services provide care to patients who come to a hospital for a diagnostic or treatment but do not stay overnight —for example, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, or health education.
Nurses that work in...

Pulse Assessment Sites01:11

Pulse Assessment Sites

2.3K
Pulse assessment sites are crucial in evaluating a patient's cardiovascular health. By assessing the pulsations of arteries at specific anatomical locations, healthcare professionals can gather valuable information about blood flow, heart rate, and peripheral circulation. Understanding these pulse assessment sites is essential for conducting comprehensive cardiovascular evaluations and monitoring patients' overall health. These sites are strategically chosen due to the accessibility and...

    Area of Science:

    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Clinical Informatics
    • Neurocritical Care

    Background:

    • Intensive care units (ICUs) generate vast amounts of physiologic data requiring advanced interpretation methods.
    • Current monitoring systems often lack real-time analysis and timely notification capabilities.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To develop and validate the Intelligent Real-time Interpretation System (IRIS) for continuous ICU physiologic monitoring.
    • To enhance clinical decision-making and caretaker notification through real-time data analysis.

    Main Methods:

    • IRIS was implemented in a neurointensive care unit, processing multimodal time-series data including EEG, ICP, and PbtO2.
    • Custom algorithms were developed to analyze data for elevated ICP, burst suppression ratios (BSRs), and faulty EEG electrodes.
    • Alerts for clinically relevant events were securely routed to hospital staff via a smartphone application.

    Main Results:

    • The platform reliably detected sustained ICP increases and PbtO2 decreases.
    • Computed BSR trends showed high correlation with manual neurologist markings (r² 0.633-0.781).
    • IRIS identified poor quality EEG electrodes with 95% positive predictive value and reduced technician response time by 93%.

    Conclusions:

    • The IRIS platform provides a flexible, real-time solution for ICU data interpretation and notification.
    • It has the potential to decrease the manual workload associated with continuous monitoring.
    • This technology advances translational medical data analytics for improved patient outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.
