Background:

  • The role of inflammatory and oxidative stress pathways in BPD is not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate alterations in the inflammatory/oxidative pathway in BPD patients.
  • To examine the relationship between these pathway alterations and clinical features of BPD.

Main Methods:

  • Studied 49 BPD patients and 33 healthy controls.
  • Measured plasma markers (TBARS, nitrites) and antioxidant enzymes (CAT, GPx, SOD).
  • Assessed intracellular inflammatory/oxidative pathway components (IκBα, NFκB, iNOS, COX2, Keap1, NQO1, HO1) using Western Blot and ELISA.

Main Results:

  • BPD patients showed decreased IκBα and increased inflammatory factors (NFκB, COX2, iNOS).
  • Antioxidant enzyme levels (except HO1) were significantly decreased in BPD patients.
  • Increased NFκB levels positively correlated with impulsivity scores.

Conclusions:

  • BPD is associated with heightened inflammatory pathway activation and suppressed antioxidant defense.
  • These biological alterations may be partially linked to the impulsivity observed in BPD.
