Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of Parkinson's disease on the performance of repetitive ventilatory tasks.
  • To determine if individuals with PD exhibit reduced work capacity and efficiency during loaded breathing.
  • To explore the potential contribution of respiratory muscle dysfunction to fatigue in PD.

  • Studied 9 patients with Parkinson's disease and 5 age-matched controls without lung disease.

    • Reduced work capacity and efficiency during loaded breathing are evident in PD.
    • Findings suggest a parallel between respiratory muscle dysfunction and peripheral skeletal muscle impairments in Parkinson's disease.
