Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Optometry
  • Vision Science

Background:

  • Colored soft contact lenses are increasingly popular.
  • Potential visual field effects of new lens designs require investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of DuraSoft 3 colored soft contact lenses on visual field testing.

Main Methods:

  • Goldmann visual field testing was conducted on ten patients wearing DuraSoft 3 lenses.
  • Visual field constriction and percentage of field loss were measured.

Main Results:

  • Nine out of ten patients exhibited visual field constriction.
  • Constriction ranged from 5 to 20 degrees.
  • Averaged field loss within tested isopters was 21% to 47%.

Conclusions:

  • DuraSoft 3 colored soft contact lenses can cause significant visual field constriction.
  • Patients and contact lens fitters should be aware of this potential complication.
