Postpartum large granular lymphocytes (LGLs) increase in women with autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), potentially triggering thyroid dysfunction. This rise in LGLs is linked to postpartum destructive thyrotoxicosis and hypothyroidism.

Background:

  • Autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) can worsen postpartum.
  • The role of immune cells, specifically large granular lymphocytes (LGLs), in this process is not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the changes in peripheral blood LGL proportions during the postpartum period in patients with AITD.
  • To determine if LGL fluctuations correlate with postpartum thyroid dysfunction.
