    • Almost all vasectomized monkeys developed circulating antisperm antibodies; about 50% retained them.
    • Testicular changes (orchitis, aspermatogenesis) and epididymal pathology were significantly more prevalent in vasectomized monkeys.
    • Increased deposition of immune complexes (IgA, IgG, C3) was observed in the ductus efferens and caput epididymidis of vasectomized monkeys.
    • Vasectomized monkeys exhibited more frequent, extensive, and severe arteriosclerosis compared to controls.

    Conclusions:

    • Vasectomy in primates elicits significant, long-lasting immune responses and pathological changes in reproductive organs.
    • Evidence suggests vasectomy-induced immune complex formation may contribute to accelerated arteriosclerosis in monkeys.
    • Further epidemiological studies are needed to determine if similar cardiovascular effects occur in men after vasectomy.
