Lesions in the anterior cingulate cortex of rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) had minimal impact on spontaneous vocalizations but impaired conditioned vocal response rates. This suggests the anterior cingulate cortex is involved in initiating voluntary vocalizations.
