Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between statin use and physical function in older Chinese adults with T2MD.
  • To assess statin-associated outcomes in this specific demographic.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study involving 146 older Chinese inpatients with T2MD.
  • Physical function was assessed using Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), Instrumental ADLs (IADLs), and the Timed "Up and Go" (TUG) test.
  • Multiple regression analyses were used to determine the relationship between statin use and physical function.

Main Results:

  • 53.4% of participants were using statins.
  • Statin users showed a significantly higher rate of TUG inability (48.7%) compared to non-statin users (27.9%).
  • No significant difference in ADL or IADL disability rates was observed between the groups. Statin use increased the risk of TUG inability by threefold.

Conclusions:

  • Statin use is significantly associated with TUG inability in older Chinese inpatients with diabetes.
  • The findings highlight a potential link between statins and impaired mobility in this population.
