Auditory cortex shapes sound responses in the inferior colliculus

Activating auditory cortex (AC) excitatory feedback to the inferior colliculus (IC) increases IC spontaneous activity and reduces sound selectivity. Inhibiting AC neurons or feedback projections did not alter IC responses, revealing excitatory feedback
