Background:

Stillbirth is a significant global health issue with profound impact on families.
Bereavement care following stillbirth is crucial for maternal and family well-being.
Existing care practices for stillbirth bereavement vary significantly worldwide.

Purpose of the Study:

To achieve global consensus on evidence-based core principles for stillbirth bereavement care.
To establish a standardized framework for high-quality bereavement support after stillbirth.

Main Methods:

Modified policy-Delphi methodology employed from September 2017 to October 2018.
Involved international stakeholders and healthcare workers with stillbirth experience.
Utilized expert meetings and multiple internet-based surveys, including a global survey.

Main Results:

Initial 23 stakeholders identified 10 core principles from 43 evidence-based themes.
Global survey (236 responses, 26 countries) refined principles to nine.
Consensus achieved on eight core principles for stillbirth bereavement care.

Conclusions:

Eight evidence-based principles for stillbirth bereavement care were established through international consensus.
Key principles include staff training, stigma reduction, respectful care, and support for grief and physical/psychological needs.
Future work should focus on implementation and incorporating the perspectives of women and families globally.
