This study validated a Learning Strategies Scale (LSS) for e-learning. Cognitive and help-seeking strategies significantly predicted training transfer in a corporate setting.
Area of Science:
- Organizational Psychology
- Educational Technology
Background:
- E-learning is a permanent fixture in corporate training.
- Learning strategies are key predictors of training effectiveness.
Purpose of the Study:
- To analyze the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Learning Strategies Scale (LSS).
- To examine the relationship between learning strategies and training transfer in an e-learning context.
Main Methods:
- Administered the LSS to 3600 Brazilian bank employees post-online course.
- Assessed training transfer via self- and hetero-evaluation.
- Conducted internal consistency, confirmatory factor analysis, and multiple regressions.
Main Results:
- A four-factor structure for the LSS demonstrated acceptable model fit.
- All learning strategies correlated with self-evaluated training transfer.
- Cognitive and help-seeking strategies predicted hetero-evaluated training transfer.
Conclusions:
- The LSS is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring learning strategies.
- Identifying effective learning strategies can enhance training effectiveness and job performance.
- Further research should explore the LSS in diverse contexts and with other workplace variables.
