Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the ALOX5 gene rs2029253 site and ALOX5AP gene rs10507391 site are associated with myeloid leukemia risk. Specific genotypes and alleles may increase or decrease susceptibility to this adult cancer.

- The ALOX5 rs2029253 site showed a significant correlation with ML risk; genotype AA and A allele were linked to increased risk (OR=2.26, P<0.05; OR=1.44, P<0.05).
- Genotype AG and G allele of ALOX5 rs2029253 were associated with reduced ML susceptibility (OR=0.46, P<0.01; OR=0.69, P<0.05).
- The ALOX5AP rs10507391 genotype AA correlated with decreased ML risk (OR=0.13, P<0.05).
- No significant correlation was found for ALOX5 rs2228064, rs2228065, and ALOX5AP rs4769874 polymorphisms with ML risk.
Conclusions:
- Specific genotypes and alleles of ALOX5 (rs2029253) and ALOX5AP (rs10507391) are associated with susceptibility to myeloid leukemia.
- These findings suggest potential genetic biomarkers for ML risk assessment.
