Summary

Serous retinal detachments can signal HELLP syndrome (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelets) in pregnancy. Multimodal imaging, including SD-OCT and ICG angiography, aids diagnosis and monitoring of this sight-threatening condition.

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine
  • Medical Imaging

Background:

  • HELLP syndrome (Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelets) is a severe obstetric complication.
  • Ocular manifestations of HELLP syndrome can include retinal detachments and papilledema.
