Chlamydia Trachomatis Associated Reactive Arthritis: A Urinary PCR Based Study

Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is linked to reactive arthritis (ReA). PCR detected CT DNA in 36% of Indian ReA patients, indicating its role and supporting PCR for rapid diagnosis.

- Reactive arthritis (ReA) is increasingly associated with Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) infections.

- To investigate the prevalence and diagnostic significance of CT in Indian patients diagnosed with ReA.
- To assess the utility of PCR in detecting CT in ReA patients.

- Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) was employed to detect CT DNA in urine samples.
- Study included 65 ReA patients, 20 patients with other inflammatory arthritis, and 20 healthy controls.

- CT DNA was detected in 36% (24/65) of ReA patients via urinary PCR.
- PCR results were negative in patients with other inflammatory arthritis and healthy controls.
- Of the positive cases, 58.33% were male and 41.66% were female.

- Urinary PCR is a valuable tool for the rapid diagnosis of CT-associated ReA.
- The findings highlight the importance of considering CT in the etiology of ReA in India.
