Summary

Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) can effectively monitor Subacute Granulomatous Thyroiditis (De Quervain's Thyroiditis) activity. These simple blood tests correlate with inflammation markers, aiding in disease follow-up.

Background:

  • Subacute Granulomatous Thyroiditis (De Quervain's Thyroiditis) is a painful inflammatory thyroid condition.
  • Easily accessible hemogram-based parameters are needed for disease monitoring.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the utility of Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR), Platelet to Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR), and Mean Platelet Volume (MPV) in monitoring Subacute Granulomatous Thyroiditis.
  • To assess the correlation of these hemogram parameters with acute phase reactants.

Main Methods:

  • Patients diagnosed with Subacute Granulomatous Thyroiditis were included.
  • Hemogram, thyroid function tests, and acute phase values were recorded at diagnosis and after treatment.
  • Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve analysis and correlation analysis were performed.

Main Results:

  • NLR (AUC=0.739) and PLR (AUC=0.772) showed significant association with disease activity.
  • MPV was not a significant indicator of disease activity (AUC=0.578).
  • NLR and PLR correlated significantly with erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP).

Conclusions:

  • NLR and PLR are beneficial for monitoring Subacute Granulomatous Thyroiditis.
  • These parameters accurately reflect the inflammatory load during the acute phase.
  • NLR and PLR correlate with established acute phase reactants like ESR and CRP.
