Summary

Transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) shows acceptable short-term outcomes for rectal cancer, with a 4.7% local recurrence rate. Longer follow-up is needed to confirm long-term oncologic results after this minimally invasive procedure.

Area of Science:

  • Colorectal surgery
  • Surgical oncology
  • Minimally invasive procedures

Background:

  • Transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) is a novel approach for rectal cancer.
  • While safety and feasibility are established, long-term outcome data remain limited.
