Successful school mental health programs require strong leadership. Focusing on leadership, priority, and communication can improve the early implementation of mindfulness-based whole school approaches (M-WSA) for adolescent well-being.
Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Educational Psychology
- Implementation Science
Background:
- Adolescent mental health prevention is a global priority.
- Universal, whole-school approaches are effective for resilience and reducing stigma.
- Mindfulness-based whole school approaches (M-WSA) show potential but implementation is poorly understood.
Purpose of the Study:
- Identify determinants of early M-WSA implementation success.
- Evaluate the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) for school mental health interventions.
Main Methods:
- Interviewed 15 school staff members from 5 UK secondary schools twice over 6 months.
- Coded interview data using CFIR constructs and other factors.
- Mapped implementation activities and perceived success over 30 months.
Main Results:
- CFIR effectively captured implementation factors (74% of constructs identified).
- 11 CFIR constructs distinguished high vs. low implementation schools.
- School leadership was the most critical construct, influencing others.
Conclusions:
- Key implementation constructs for successful M-WSA include leadership, priority, communication, and dedicated leaders.
- School leadership is crucial for successful early implementation.
- CFIR is a valuable tool for assessing mental health program implementation in UK schools.

The Role of Exercise in Stress Management
Regular physical activity is essential for reducing stress and promoting cardiovascular health. Exercise strengthens the heart, enhances blood flow, keeps blood vessels flexible, and helps lower blood pressure, all of which reduce the body's stress response. Research shows that adults who exercise regularly have nearly half the...
Steps in the Modeling Process
Attention is the first necessary component for observational learning. It involves focusing on what the model is doing and saying. For example, if you decide to take a drawing class to enhance your skills, you need to pay close attention to the instructor's words and hand movements. The characteristics of the model significantly...
