  • Prolonged hypercalcemia exposure may lead to enduring neuropsychiatric sequelae.

Implications:

  • Further research is needed to understand mechanisms of persistent psychosis after hypercalcemia.
  • Consideration of prolonged neuropsychiatric monitoring in patients with severe or prolonged hypercalcemia is warranted.
