Pulmonary edema can occur after laryngospasm, even in healthy individuals. Prompt treatment with mechanical ventilation is crucial for managing this serious respiratory complication.

Observation:

  • A case of a healthy young woman experiencing laryngospasm post-surgery is presented.
  • The patient initially received mask ventilation and anesthetic deepening for laryngospasm.

Findings:

  • Progressive respiratory deterioration occurred in the hour following initial treatment.
  • Manifest pulmonary edema developed, necessitating endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a rare but severe sequela of laryngospasm.
  • Mechanical ventilation with Positive End-Expiratory Pressure (PEEP) may be required for managing post-laryngospasm pulmonary edema.
