Background:

The UK requires an expanded community nursing workforce due to an aging population and healthcare reforms.
International reports suggest student nurses may not fully value or learn from community placements, potentially causing post-graduation reluctance.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate student nurses' perceptions of their community placement learning environments.
To assess the impact of clinical facilitators and structured learning packages on student experience and skill development.

Main Methods:

A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining survey data with focus group discussions.
Student nurses' views on learning environment, clinical support, and preparation were systematically gathered and analyzed.

Main Results:

Students reported positive experiences within community placement learning environments.
Strong, positive relationships were observed between students and their clinical facilitators.
There is a clear student preference for a more structured learning package to aid preparation and skill acquisition.

Conclusions:

Community placements are viewed positively by student nurses.
Enhanced support through structured learning packages could improve preparation and potentially increase future community nursing workforce engagement.
