Abstract:
The relationship between smoking machine parameters and cigarette smoke yields of tar, nicotine and carbon monoxide has been investigated. It is concluded that the order of ranking of brands for tar does not alter substantially when machine parameters are used which differ from those in the present standard international methodology. Corroborative evidence is presented documenting the variation in the value of a number of cigarette design features with alternative smoking machine parameters.
