Insights
Abnormally located heart chords in children and adults are linked to minor connective tissue defects, suggesting a congenital systemic connective tissue disorder. This finding aids in diagnosing such conditions.
Area of Science:
- Cardiology
- Genetics
- Rheumatology
Context:
- Abnormally located chords in the left ventricular cavity are a cardiac anomaly.
- Ultrasonic investigation is a key diagnostic tool for cardiac abnormalities.
Purpose:
- To investigate the association between abnormal left ventricular chords and connective tissue abnormalities.
- To establish a potential diagnosis of congenital systemic connective tissue involvement.
Summary:
- A study involving 37 children and 32 adults identified minor connective tissue developmental defects in individuals with abnormally located chords in the left ventricular cavity.
- These defects suggest a basis for diagnosing systemic connective tissue involvement, likely congenital in origin.
Impact:
- This research may improve the diagnostic criteria for congenital connective tissue disorders.
- Early identification of connective tissue abnormalities can lead to timely intervention and management.
Abstract:
A study of 37 children and 32 adults with abnormally located chords in the left ventricular cavity detected by ultrasonic investigation of the heart, revealed a number of minor developmental defects of connective tissue which served as the basis for establishing diagnosis of connective tissue systemic involvement (probably, congenital).
